Start with the work you want priced
When comparing Phoenix bathroom contractors, make the shower assembly and its installation responsibilities explicit. Tile appearance is only one decision. Ask who specifies the preparation, waterproofing, drain, fixtures, glass and required checks before finishes cover the work.
A comparison you can try
Fictional planning example: In a fictional tub-to-shower project, one quote says “tile shower” and another lists preparation, waterproofing, drain work and glass. A lower tile price may simply omit those components. Ask the first bidder to itemize the same assembly. If the proposed drain location changes, have the contractor explain the access and repair assumptions before signing. This example is not a Phoenix installation specification or a quoted price.
Three questions that make the bid useful
1. Define the scope
Choose the intended shower footprint and access features, then have the appropriate professional confirm feasibility and local requirements. A photograph does not establish clearances or structural conditions.
2. Resolve the dependencies
Ask for the proposed waterproofing system and installation documentation. Agree on checks and records before the assembly is concealed, using applicable requirements and manufacturer instructions.
3. Assign the responsibility
Separate the vanity, fixtures, tile and glass allowances. Confirm measurement, ordering and responsibility if a selected product does not fit.
Verify the relevant local requirements
Use Arizona ROC’s official contractor-search route to check the business and relevant license classification. Confirm permit and inspection needs with the authority for the property.
Use the business name on the proposed contract when checking records. A directory entry, a referral or an association logo does not by itself establish the credentials, coverage or availability of a particular contractor.
What to do next
Give two bidders the same shower and fixture schedule. Resolve the assembly, glass and drain exclusions before deciding which proposal offers better value.
